I installed an aftermarket Kenwood Sirius tuner in my 03 Cooper S using the Soundgate adapter and existing CD changer cable. However, I do not get any of the scrolling info, just strictly the channel number. If I were to use the actual OEM tuner that comes installed in MINIs, would my stock head unit have this capability? Are there any additional requirements in order to install this?


Anybody know how much this beast runs? Any vendors that sell this?

 

It does but they have a very bad implementation of it.

For example in my old car I had the clarion unit and it did what you would think. I would for example leave it on artist, and it would always show me the artist, scrolling every 10 seconds or so. If I switched it to something else, it would stay there. I never cared what channel name/number, artist is what I usually want to know.

The OEM unit ALWAYS defaults to station name. It shows number when you change channes, then switches back to name. You hit the iunfo button to scroll through song name and artist, but after a few seconds it will go back to station name. Furthermore, it will not scroll unless you hold down the button to tell it to. Then it will scroll just once. Really dumb in my opinion, you really have to take your eyes off the road to do all this, when it should just stay there the first time you do it!

My unit was $600 installed.

MUCH more expensive than aftermarket and a terrible implementation. But worth it because it is fully integrated. I only paid it because I love sirius so much.
