slight high pitched whine from turbo when engine oil is cold.

is this normal? Once the engine is the normal operating temperature the whine seems to either go away or drop to a level that can't be heard above road noise. The actual operation of the turbo seems fine.

Do you crank it up and take off right away? or do you let it warm up some? I have heard alot of Turbo guys ( different brands etc ) claim you should let your turbo car warm up till the choke kicks off and it idles at it's normal range..

No, but are you sure it’s coming from your turbo? The whine comes from the Vanos adjusting the throttle body on cold start.
