Question Looking at a used Countryman

Let me start by saying I currently own a Cooper S that i ordered back in the summer of 2008. Back then, MINI couldn't hardly keep cars on the lot, they had to be special ordered and you followed the production in the factory and the trip on the boat. I am now looking at purchasing a 2016 CountryMan S All4. In researching the VIN, it's an R60 and it shows that it was produced in October 2016 but wasn't purchased as a new car until December 2017. The odometer had 10 miles at that time. Just over a year later the car is for sale with 12,500 miles on it. It's nicely equipped, has the options I'm looking for. From pictures it looks to be in great shape. I'm going to go look at it on Saturday (it's a four hour drive to the lot where it's located at). The only thing that may be a little odd is that it has the Polar Beige leather and maybe people in the PNW aren't into that? Anyone want to venture a guess as why a brand new car would sit so long? What's the production cutoff date for model year changes?

TIA
Peggy

Were you able to see a CarFax for the car? Granted that may not cover all the history but would give you an idea what happened to it, if any problems. In the past I was able to call the maintenance facilities listed and get a history about the car. Or the previous owner may be like me, retired and drives only 4,000 miles per year?

I looked at an Autocheck report and there's no reported accidents. I also talked to a person at the closest MINI Dealership to find out about the factory warranty status and he also said no reported accidents. The car retains it's warranty until 12/31/20. I also don't put very many miles on my car; probably average around 8,000 a year.

We have a 2012 all4 with 49k on the clock. Bought is used July 2016 with 29k. It is the 6 speed standard and 3 weeks after buying it the clutch failed. The clutch was not covered by factory warranty and the selling dealer paid for the parts and I did the work. Is this one auto or standard tranny? That is the only issue we have had and I blame the prior owner for the clutch.

Could have sat because given the production date it must have been right at the end of the run for the R60. Wasn't the F60 released in 2017?

That is a little strange

Couldn't you just call the dealership that had it on their lot for over a year and ask them? Was it a loaner car or something? Weird.
