First Classic Mini (should I do it?)

I have this also posted in the Classic MINI thread but I really want to get the most input shortly as I can.

I currently have a 2002 Mini Cooper S. I have been saving up to get another vehicle as I never want to sell the 02 for a few reasons. I was thinking of getting into something newer like a 2014+ Focus ST (which I have wanted for a long time). But my father just came across this 1978 Austin Mini. I have not yet gotten much info on it yet but before I bug the seller I want to know the input you guys have that either have or had owned a classic mini in the US.

Should I spend most of my money to get a classic mini and continue to daily drive my 2002, and then have an awesome ride for the summer. Or should I be more practical and get the Focus ST and save a classic mini for a few years down the road.

Thanks

You will spend more time working on an old car than driving it.

Also, if you get into an accident, body parts will be hard to get here in US.

If you are ok with that, then it would be a good hobby.

If you want reliable transportation that you can fix easily, get the Focus.

Arms, legs, etc?

I've often thought of buying one, but with texters driving around now, the odds of getting smacked into oblivion are getting higher daily. Family has lot's of experience getting hit while sitting at lights, etc. The old mini as cute as it is offers minimal protection.

I love them but... they are slow, noisy, ride terrible, and usually need lots of work.

My son had an old VW GTI.

A deer lost the contest but we had to rebuild the front end.

It was a big hassle finding the correct fender. Finally got a half roached one & sandblasted it, etc.

I have a '75 I've had since 2003. It has been epically more reliable and cheaper to run than my new one. Yes it's noisy and impractical other than around town. Parts are easy to get here. It also puts a big grin on my face everytime I get in it. It's rhd which I prefer.
