The 2018 Mini Cooper S E Countryman All4 has a long name and a smaller battery than almost any other plug-in hybrid in existence. But even though it’s a small step toward electric driving, it’s got a lot of personality for a car you connect to a wall socket.

Being a Midwest boy, the pure joy of a weekend trip Up North is something deeply embedded into my bloodline. I thought this electrified Mini would prove itself adept for this kind of use, but after a few days in the Hudson Valley, I came away thinking it’d be a solid daily driver for those who want some electric juice but aren’t ready to ditch the internal combustion engine just yet.

(Full Disclosure: Mini wanted us to drive its new Countryman hybrid so badly that its reps let me borrow one with a full tank of gas. And even though I really didn’t mean to, I accidentally returned it full of dog hair. For that I’m deeply sorry.)

Over Thanksgiving, my girlfriend and I locked down a place in upstate to spend the holidays in solitude, away from the frenetic nature of the city. The Countryman proved useful for both city driving—of course, it’s heavier than your traditional Mini, but it still can zip around traffic with ease—as well as long, winding treks.

Put simply, it’s a well-rounded, sharp-looking car, a perfect weekender that comes with enough electric range that could seriously benefit someone who has a short daily commute.

The fist paragraph of "What is it?" ends with a fragment that does not make any sense??

 

I get the gist of it -- what's not making sense to you?

The thought/ sentence is not finished. "...a 65-kilowatt motor that (what?)" It does not make sense.

 

Sometimes you just have to embrace the pictures and read the article.

 

Just a miss in proofreading, the word "that" needs to be deleted.

All in all, not a very compelling article.
