Has anyone onstalled one in a gen1? I'm looking at it but not sure if the flip up face will clear the dash above and angle down too much.

 

It is just my view. I wouldn't want a flip up just for the CarPlay. A HU with good bluetooth connectivity and a good phone cradle, I get more functionality from the phone than I need. Hand free call and answer, turn by turn map etc.

You should see how pitiful the screen rez of these HU are. Even double DIN. I suspect the speedometer balcony is too grand for a flip up to work.

 

I am wondering the same thing! I have a new to me R53 in my not too distant future and thought CarPlay would be pretty nice. I will for sure be doing a modern head unit with bluetooth.

I think it the screen fits it would work wonderfully, and having used CarPlay in other cars I know I would enjoy it BUT it's also 5 times the price of a good Bluetooth head unit so that works against it for me.

 

i just read I cant maintain the stock hk amps so that means rewiring every speaker, Im not into that, so Im staying stock. I bought a bt,adapter for the aux port, so Ill do that instead for calls and streaming.
