Woo-Hoo! Got my build date!

10/24/04
(isn't that a Sunday???)

2005 MINI Cooper S
BRG with white roof, bonnet stripes, mirror caps
Premium Package
Sport Package
white alloy wheels
Space Gray/Panther upholstery w/ silver interior
Cockpit chrono pack

Ordered this from Julie at Classic MINI on Tuesday 10/12/04. Going to fly back to pick it up, visit friends and family in the Midwest, and drive it back to Sacramento.

I don't remember the last time I felt an anticipation this intense!

Congrats! Classic must have some really great production slots - I ordered my MCS on 9/30 from Global in Atlanta, and their next available slot (for an Anthracite headliner) was the week of 11/29. They had a slot open two weeks earlier, but the headliner would not have been available on that date.

Anyway, good for you! Take some pics of the trip back, and share your impressions of the car once you have it. Have a great drive home!

Julie said they still had two slots remaining in their October allotment, so I guess I placed my order at the right time.

A weird thing happened, too. I was on the phone, talking to Julie as I was placing my order. I told her I didn't really like the alloy patina on the MINIs I'd seen, and asked her what she suggested. We talked about the anthracite, the carbon fiber (ouch - cool, but too much money), body color (I like BRG, but not that much!), and the silver. While we were talking, I was online with miniusa.com's "build your MINI" pages and when I clicked on "silver" and saw how it looked, I said to her, "Yeah, let's go with the silver."

She said, "Okay." And then there was a brief pause, and she said, "Now that's funny."

I said, "What?" imagining her computer crashed or something and my whole order was lost.

She said, "Well, when I selected the silver interior, your projected build date just moved up a couple of weeks."

I don't know how things work at the Oxford plant, but maybe they had a bunch of silver dashes in the pipe already or something like that? I placed the order on 10/12, the build date is scheduled for 10/24, which means the car should be at Classic around - what? - the end of November? Seven weeks? Must be some kind of record, no?

I was just hoping I could avoid the January price increase!

From: Right here smelling exhaust fumes
hahahaha

Now that's funny... because dashes have nothing to do with build dates. But hey, I am glad you're happy.

That's what Julie said, too. (Makes sense to me, too.) Guess it was just a coincidence that at the moment she made the dash change, the order date changed.

Not that I'm complaining! I'll take it!
