R50 universal roof rack fit?

Hi all,

'04 R50 here, I'd like to install a roof rack for the occasional transportation of larger things.

Issue is, I can't seem to find anything but the OEM Mini, which costs 400$+ AND require drilling into the roof as I understand it. No thanks!

All the universal brands (Yakima, Thule, etc) from the classic stores (Canadian Tire, Walmart) conveniently omit Mini from their compatibility booklets.

Is OEM my only choice? Is there a model I can modify to fit?

From the invoice for the Yakima roof rack I purchased for my 2002 MCS in 2003:

Q Towers (set of 4) - Part Y0105
Q Clips (1 pair) - Part YQ78
SKS Lock Cores (4) - Part Y7204

I already had the cross bars.

There parts were purchased from The Rack Warehouse.

If you're local I would consider selling my setup.

Just noticed that Yakima now recommends different clips:

Or you can simply use GEN2 roof rack like me on my PARK LANE '06.

You can definitely still get Yakima and Thule universal racks with the "fit kits" specific for the R50. I prefer this method over the R50 OEM rack which requires drilling into the roof and using plastic covers over the mounting points when you have to remove the rack mounts.

If you go to the manufacturer's website, you'll find all the various things needed. Here's a link the Thule's site:

Be sure to do a search on the marketplace too - I've seen roof racks for sale pretty regularly there and that's where I picked mine up at a great price.
