S to Non-S Conversion:

Hi Folks,

I have an R50 right now (which I love, just about to hit the 210k mile mark), and I'm looking for something a little newer.

Enter the R57! One of these (2011) just went up for sale a stone's throw from my house. That convertible top is mighty tempting to an aspiring Superdad that wants to show off to this 4 year old

In all sincerity, though - I'm a total old-man driver, and it would be my daily / commuter vehicle. Improved gas mileage and reliability have a lot more appeal to me than turbochargers. Anyone ever convert these / remove the turbo?

Thanks and best wishes,

- Ald

Probably be better off looking for a just a convertible, rather than convert an S over. Regardless, you can certainly drive a turbo car mildly Andy get decent mileage. I romp on my Clubman S and I still get 30-ish mpg

Non-s rules!

I know what you mean. I found our '09 R57 with 23k miles, bone stock, one owner....no issues! Loving it...!

Boy oh boy, I wish it was that easy! At least out here in CT, I don't see loads of minis up for sale in my price range. And they are just about never what I'm looking for.

If I find all the options I want, it's not the color I want, or the miles are high, or the price is awful, etc. Beggars can't be choosers, as they say! I'll have to deal with taking my fully loaded R57 with a turbo

Pretty sure I'm doomed to breaking down and buying it in the morning. Already done gone and named it

They are all special!

Hope you find the right one for you! The R57 was the recent find for our daughter, the newest driver in the family. The R60 Is the wife's second CM, the first was a CM Justa. The S has been a lot of fun. Best of luck on your search.

It would be an excessive amount of work. The electrics alone I couldn't fathom. Youd need to basically do an engine swap. Not worth it. Stay out of boost and it is just a big water-cooled piece of exhaust pipe.
