New CVT transmission, shifting hard

Just purchased a new (factory remanufactured) CVT transmission for the 2006 mini convertible. The local mechanic put it on, and we took it to BMW to put in the special CVT fluid and retrain the computer.

After doing so, the car runs, but it shifts into gear very hard. Have any of you seen this? The BMW guy is confused, and is retraining.

Going to move you to the Stock Problems/Issues area as the trannie on your vert is no different than the hardtop.

And, just remember that just because something comes out of the box does not mean it is going to work correctly. How does the warranty work, can you take it back to Mini?

I thought the whole point of CVT is it didn't shift? There are no "gears" in the traditional sense, it's just the one gear. Am I misunderstanding?

Yes need some clarification, do you mean you cannot get the shift lever from Park into Drive, or, that once in gear the trannie is not letting the car go faster by ramping up?

Wow - for some reason, I didn't see all these replies. My apologies!

You were correct - the new transmission was actually bad! I purchased a salvage transmission. and had it put in, and it worked right off (after programming it). It's been a comedy of errors (bad transmissions, replacements shipped to the wrong city, delays, etc). But as of today, My mini is back on the road! And the difference is night-and-day. It's running very smooth, much smoother then when we bought it a few years ago.

Also, what I was referring to above is when you shift it into drive - the bad one would slam into gear, and shake the car. Something was definitely wrong. This salvage one is smooth.
