Suspension Upgrading the rear sway bar?
Upgrading the rear sway bar?
I've read that the handling of the mini can be improved with a stiffer rear sway bar. I'm prepping to replace the shocks on the rear of my '06 S model and thought I'd at least look into upgradeding the sway bar while I'm back there. Any suggestions or advice specific to the convertible? Thanks
A good motoring friend installed a 19mm on his 06 R52 and was as wowed as I was with a 22mm on our 06 R53. The diy installation is quite easy. It's the best bang for the buck suspension mod available. I have it set on the stiffest setting and there it still remains. It will dramatically change the handling precision. Good Luck.
If I remember correctly the stock R50 sway bars are 16mm and the R53 & JCW's are 17mm. Common upgrades are the 19mm and 22mm...Hotchkis offers a hollow 25.5mm (I currently have this) which has the same effectiveness as a solid 22mm.
There is some controversy on whether a 19mm is a large enough upgrade to make a real difference, a lot of people go for the 22mm.
I am happy with my H-Sport competition bar. I set it in the middle and forgot about it. With new shocks and a sway bar your mini will be handling great.
