P0442 - Evap Line on top of gas tank - R56 Mk2

P0442 - Evap Line on top of gas tank - R56 Mk2
Hi everyone - keep throwing a P0442. Could not figure out wherethe leak was. Finally had a shop do a smoke test. They found a critter hadchewed on the evap line on top of the gas tank. They want $1,000 to fix as theyhave to remove the gas tank and replace the entire evap line.
Unfortunately the damage is not under the gas tank cover access holes under therear seat but off to the drivers side.
I guess I have two options:
1. Remove the gas tank - but obviously a pita.
2. Cut a hole above the gas tank in order to access from above.
With #1 - how big a job will this be?
With #2 - my concern is creating sparks near the tank! Any thoughts on this?
With both options - do I really need to replace the entire evap line or can Ijust repair it with some hose and clamps?
