Coilovers, or lowering springs?

I am considering my options. Limited budget involved, I am looking at lowering springs, specifically H&R 1.4" drop springs. I was thinking of coilovers, but the cost has turned me off, especially since my goal would be to adjust ride height for winter/summer. Still willing to save up for coilovers, but a couple questions, if I may? If I set the coilovers for summer (low setting), then change ride height for winter (back up again), I would need to get another alignment, right? Basically, 2 alignment jobs per year. And I gotta guess on when to do those adjustments/alignments. Lowering springs would leave me at that height, all year round. I guess another question would be "who has dropped their MINI 1.4 inches, and drives on unpaved roads, sometimes muddy and/or a bit snowy?" I am just looking to get rid of the obnoxious fender gap, and maybe get a bit more handling ability. The 6k air ride kits are out of the question, but with unlimited funds, that is what I would do! Any ideas/opinions/experiences are welcomed! Thanks in advance, guys and gals.

Motor On!
Chris

it's really easy to adjust toe, that's all I do if I'm adjusting ride height, buy some longacre camber plates

I will never do springs only again, these cars only have a couple inches of shock travel, now when I hit bumps it crashes abusing the bumpstops and shocktowers

Next set for me are some that adjust height without limiting shock travel, like the BC coilovers.

I have BC Coils on my CM, absolutely love them. Very compliant on small and medium bumps but you know when you hit the big ones, it just sounds painful haha. I'm set at 6 or 7 clicks off softest. Haven't had the pleasure of snow yet on these but even with almost 3" drop, I still have 6" clearance at the front bumper, granted I have a CM.
