Tire Specs for 19x8.5 rim

Hello all,

I have noticed that some folks are running 245 tires on their rims. I have just bought a set of 19x8.5 wheels and was suggested to get 225/40/19. To me that seems like too narrow of a tire for the rim.

I am thinking of going 235/40/19 and would love any feedback on this. If someone has written about this let me know.

Thanks in advance.

When I was running 19s (19x8 +45mm), I went with 245/40/19 tires because (1) there was a larger tire selection, (2) they filled out the wheel gap, (3) the larger diameter made the speedometer more accurate, and (4) the taller sidewall made the ride a bit more comfortable. The only problem was that once in a blue moon, the rears would slightly rub over large dips at freeway speeds. If tire selection was not an issue, I wouldn't hesitate to go with 235/40/19.
