How big can we go?

So my turbo is on its way out. Debating on what I am going to upgrade to. Right now a 42/43mm is what looks best as it appears to be best of both worlds in terms of spool and power. This car is a DD with full bolt-ons and wondering if going to a 47mm is worth it. I like to do things once and be done and don't want buyers remorse. Is the 47mm manageable for street use without significant lag? I don't race but do enjoy 3rd/4th gear blasts when possible. Of course I will upgrade my tune for said turbo I purchase but don't want to have to upgrade 5 other things because I went too big or not have power until 3500rpm. Thanks for your help in advance.

I cant say for sure, but if it keeps the same turbine, it should spool just a tad later and build for longer. also if the tips are clipped, that helps spooling. its when you get the 47mm and start having all the power, what else will need replacing when you go high boost all the time =)

how do you know your turbo is going out? ive notice recently that my engine bay sounds like gravel in a cement mixer, only for a minute maybe less, does that mean my turbo is going?

I opened my downpipe and looked at my wastegate. The flap isn't fully covering the port, allowing air to escape, so I'm not building boost as fast or as much as I should be. If I'm not mistaken the sounds you are experiencing are typical of a timing chain tensioner going bad.
