R60 2012 R60 battery upgrade?
2012 R60 battery upgrade?
Greetings from the Great White North, Everyone:
I've really benefited from and appreciated the information that you post and the guidance that you've offered. Thank you!
I have a 2012 R60 (All4/S, manual transmission, just in case that matters) and I want/need to replace the 12v battery in the car.
From the very beginning, I've had periodic "increased battery discharge" warnings from the car, and the dealer assures me that I just need to drive the car more and longer. But recently the problem has gotten worse, so I've decided to replace the battery and to replace it with a higher capacity version.
So... I've been reading all that I can find, and I don't see a clear choice in upgraded batteries, so what are you using?
And: do I need to go through the registration process, or just unbolt the old and bolt up the new?
Many thanks in advance!

apparently you have to go through the registration process when getting a new battery, im not sure how its done, but any battery should suffice. just make sure when you buy a new battery, check that the warranty is good and the CCA is the same or higher than the battery you are replacing. otherwise a performance battery will come in a Lion, which will shed you about 15lb
I picked up an Autocraft H6 AGM at Advance Auto. They always have coupons for a significant percent off. just google "advance auto coupons". Not sure what your best bet is in the land of handsome prime ministers. It was $175 with a $50 off coupon bringing it down to around $125 (plus core charge)

It DID need to be coded since it was technically a different size (CA) than OEM and I used the Carly app.. which is @#%$!& expensive after paying for the dongle, app, and battery unlock feature--well over $100 US to register the battery. I think a reasonably competent BMW shop could do the same for you for around the same price--ask around. I also understand there may be discounts on the carly app and/or dongle if you're smart enough to look around before buying (oops).
Installation is pretty easy.
Remove battery door/cover
Remove RHS wiper arm
Remove underhood trim
Disconnect vent tube
Remove battery
Reverse for installation
Make sure you save the vent tube adapter nipple from the positive terminal cover and pop it into the vent hole on the side of the battery and connect the vent hose.
Code/Register the battery
In any case, it was a total of maybe $250 and less than an hour of work all told.
