Offset question

I must have read everything and only came up with some valid info. So, I have a 2013 MCS with sport package. It's bone stock. I am planning to buy new wheels within this month. I want to get 17x7.5 and run 215/45 tires. I live in NYC so potholes are out of this world. Now in the future I will like to lower my car. Not going to slam it but maybe 1-1.2 inch drop. Now this is where I am not certain. What offset do I get the wheels in? I don't want to rub nor have to modify flares/wheel wells to prevent rubbing. It seems that Et 40 to 45 should work but can anybody confirm this. Thanks

I run 17 x 7.5 w/45 offset on 235 (YES) 40/17 and lowered 2". JCW 2013 and used daily in RI which has the WORST roads in USA. NO RUBBING.

I have 235/40/17 tires coming in the mail along with H&R lowering springs that should provide a 1.4 inch drop this week. My wheels are also 17 x 7.5 et 42, I'll let you know how that works out for me.
