ZAP! Get your Smart car in the U.S.

Introducing SMART, the car that redefines mobility. ZAP is proud to soon offer one of the most fuel-efficient, gas-powered cars on the planet. This new 60 Mile Per Gallon City Coupe has been designed as the car of the future with many "smart" features that address today's crowded urban traffic and rising energy prices. Don't be fooled by its charming, futuristic look, the SMART will surprise you with its handling, its stylish, roomy interior for 2 passengers, and its innovative design. After taking Europe by storm, ZAP is bringing the Americanized version that is a U.S. Compliant direct import automobile.

Interesting crash video there too, looks like they fare ok in a wreck. Tho having driven one, I still feel MUCH safer in my MCS!
Sorry to disappoint you folks, even if it means flaming the ZAP, which is located right here in my back door of Santa Rosa. The car isn't all it's made out to be.
ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) started out making electric cars and electric-motorized bicycles, mostly for police and public agencies). They went through Chapter 11 and are now concentrating on gasoline-powered cars like the one developed by Daimler-Chrysler. The car's fit and finish is very spartan and I consider it just a cut above those electric ones used by meter maids, even though it is highway legal and sells for as much as $12k. Sure, it looks unlike anything else in the U.S., but I'd get a Kia before getting the ZAP.
Stick to the MINI.
