Hi, first post on here, so please let me know if I miss any of the preferred forum etiquette! I started my 2008 mini cooper hardtop this evening, and on the tachometer indicator panel, I had the brake, DSC, and ABS light come on in yellow. I also had a check engine light on the center console indicators. When cycling through the main display show info menu, it has the ABS light, check engine light, and parking brake engaged light all in yellow.
I haven't had the check engine light investigated yet, it is snowing here and I didn't really want to drive down the hill from my place with no stability control. I have another vehicle better in the winter conditions. I am hoping to get it down to have the code read tomorrow.
I need to get brake fluid changed, I am well overdue on that (A few months, but little driving). And of note, it has been parked outside, with temperatures in the 20s-40s Fahrenheit. It is at 150k miles, and was fine as of a few days ago when I parked it there. Anyone seen something similar?
Just last week I took my sons R56 to the dealer for a water pump, water pipe and oil filter housing gasket replacements. It also had that big "A" light on the display that won´t go off. They said it was one wheel speed sensor wrongly plugged. I have to admint I changed brake pads wear sensors myself and could possibly mess with the speed sensors as well since you have to work blind when replacing rear wheels ones.
The brake pads haven't been replaced in a while, but I did get winter tires put on less than 100 miles ago... Maybe something was affected there.
I did check the engine code today. It is P1776. Which from this forum it sounds like that is the wheel speed/ABS sensor? The brake indicator did turn red today as well instead of yellow. I am going to try cleaning the sensors tonight and see if that fixes anything.
Follow both sensors wires in each wheel until you reach the plugs. Easy to replace them.
For rear wheels you don´t need to rise the car, just slide your hand under the swing arm when following the speed sensor wire.
Plugs are attached to cars body with very weak plastic clamps, be careful when unleashing them.
For front wheels, both plugs white and blue are just under the wheel liner in front of the shock absorber. Just follow the wire...
Keep in mind speed sensors can be fine but just wrongly plugged as it happened to me. Double check the plugs before buying new sensors. For brake sensors use needle nose pliers with care when taking them off. They break easily and them you have to take the brake caliper off...
Hope you understand what I say, always have the feeling I use to much words to explain a simple thing due to my lack of english vocabulary
Well, I cleaned the front left speed sensor and put it back. Then the car would jerk when I put it in drive or reverse and a new check engine light came on, P0720. So I took it to a shop that could read which sensor needed replacement. It was the front left. Replaced the sensor entirely and all indicator lights went out and the car drove just fine. Thanks for the help!

Hey Chris!
Glad to know it was something easy to fix. Pity you had to spend some bucks at dealer, but sometimes its no bad to have the car tested, some other error codes could be stored and cause more "pain".
I have a 2009 convertible base model mini and for the past 3-4 months. I've been driving with 2 warning lights that periodically alert as I'm driving. The 2 warning lights are the DSC(dynamic stability control) and the BRAKE light and both light up at the same time. I've had a complete brake job done as well as 4 new tires put on within the last month, but the problem occurred before the tire and brake work was done. At first the brake light was red until i had my brakes changed then the brake light turned yellow afterwards with the dsc light still on and yellow too.The lights just lit up one day on my way home from work and haven't been able to find any information as to what the lights are indicating is wrong specifically. The car drives fine in the rain or hot weather and I take corners no problem. I have noticed my acceleration performance has decreased and sometimes I feel as if my car struggles to change gears and it doesn't seem to want to go when I put the gas peddle down. I'm not sure if these syntoms could be related at all. If anyone has any information or tips on how to go about finding out the issue without using a diagnostic scanner would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance..... These are the 2 lights that light up for the past 3-4 months. They light up at the same time and will periodically alert me as im driving the car. Im not sure if the check engine light may be related as well. This is me checking the information on my cars computer for any issues that may be wrong and it said the check was okay when its turned off and not driving.
