R50/53 Clutch release fork post
Clutch release fork post
I've got an '06 Cooper S that I changed the clutch in. When I purchased the car I was told that it just had a new one put in. Well 7000 miles later it's out. Anyway, my question is the garage that replaced the clutch told me it was a dual mass flywheel still so I ordered the OEM LUK clutch kit. I took everything apart and it's a Competition clutch stage 2 kit with an OEM clutch disk. My OEM pressure plate and clutch disk fit on the CC flywheel but after the gearbox is back on the car there is a lot of play with the release fork rod is there away I can fix this?
Yup that's your problem. When you mix and match clutches and flywheels the height doesn't match up and this causes issues like the failure you have.
Go with the Valeo kit and be done as we've proven them to be reliable.

Also the shop should have never put a non sprung stock clutch on a solid flywheel. That is what the dual mass takes the place of the springs in the disk. This will usually cause shudder and make it not smooth.
