2012 Clubman S - to trade or not to trade.
I kind of asked about the reliability on this car in the General Mini talk, forgetting there was a specific forum for just my model of Clubman.
Anyway, I bought this car in February of this year when it had 29,000 miles on it. It now has 48,000 miles. It's an automatic, looks to have all the options including Nav and HK stereo, among others.
I've had the oil changed 3 times at Mini in Indianapolis. Other than that it hasn't needed anything at all. I put non-runflat tires on it soon after I bought it that have been wearing well.
My concern is this, it's now out of warranty - has been since June...I have no extended warranty, so I'm concerned that there are going to start being issues. I realize this is the N18 engine with less issues overall, but I still see water pump, temps sensor, turbo, etc... issues that come with these. I'd like to drive it to at least 75,000 miles or more, but now I'm thinking it may be time to trade it in for something else. I drive a lot for work, so the next 25,000 miles would come probably at the end of next year.
Thoughts? Am I just crazy?

Not sure, perhaps a Lexus CT200h at this point, not new, but low miles. Can get one for around $16,000 with 28,000 miles.

18k: oil leak - oil pump solenoid valve assembly, engine harness assembly, and gasket replaced. coolant temp sensor replaced under campaign
36k: engine malfunction - reduced power: high pressure fuel pump & pressure hose assembly replaced
69k: check engine light - replaced tank vent valve that was stuck open, oil filter housing gasket (they said it was leaking coolant), lower control arm bushings, cracked drive belt
I'm pretty easy on the car and purchased it new. Mini says this is all normal. Luckily all was covered on the warranty or maintenance. I'm considering extending my warranty. A lot of people seem to have had the HPFP changed. Hope that helps!

My 2010 Clubman has 35,000 miles on it, I change the oil annually, about every 5000 miles. It has been trouble free. I plan on changing the fluid in the automatic transmission at 50,000 miles, as it seems, from my reading, that the transmission fluid is all done at that mileage.
I've been wrenching on my 1998 Volvo for 230,000 miles, fixing things as needed, I expect the MINI to last as long or longer with regular maintenance.

I have 36,000 miles on my 2014 Clubman S and have yet to have any issues other than windshields . When I had some work done at Motoring Magic ( Springs & Rear Swaybar ) I spoke with Scott the owner about the N18 motor, and he nothing but good things t say about it. He said that they had worked all the issues that the N14 had .
Countryman with the n18 motors have been the most reliable MINIs I have seen. Just do more frequent oil changes. I do mine every 4k. With proper care you should see 75k easy with no major engine work.

Thanks guys for the input! Probably going to keep it and see what happens. I'm pretty easy on it and change the oil frequently. Due for front brakes/rotors soon and will do that myself as well. I get scared about the other bigger stuff that I can't do on my own.
Should be fine, just change the oil and keep up with maintenance, it has the N18 engine so it will be ok. If you were going to the new F54 clubman for a newer model or 4 wheel drive ( ALL4) then that would be different.

I've had my 2011 MCCS since early April without a warranty. So far I've had the thermostat temp sensor go bad and a very odd VANOS issue which was caused by a manufacturing defect when the engine was being assembled. MINI graciously covered 75% of the cost of the VANOS repair which still ended up costing me $650.
Other than that I've had no problems (knock on wood) so far.

I also have a 2012 Clubman S and have just Unser 62K miles. I bought it new and it is my second clubman also leasing a 2008. I have had many issues with this car! Most were covered under warranty but now I am well out of warranty and I'm scared. I think about trading for a Miata or something more reliable. Yesterday I received a lighting malfunction warning and lost control of turn signals, power windows, brake lights (except for above boot doors). After research on these forums I learned there is an extension to the warranty to cover FRM front footwell module . Brought it to the dealer today and yes that's what it was. Totally covered. Whew! Saved $1000K+
I also had a $2500 bill this past August. Turns out my fuel pump was bad and the oil pan was leaking oil loosening the timing chain. Yikes!!! I brought it in to have the injector service performed for the second time. I have always taken care of this car. All services performed. Premium fuel, etc. I think the overall reliability sucks on this car. Too bad I love driving it every time I get in it. I'm scared to think what's going to break next. For now I'm glad the FRM was covered under warranty. The service manager said my car was in great shape and they suggested I replace the coolant hoses for $1150. I said your crazy. I'm going to get OEM hoses he have my local guy do it. Spark plugs too.

I just traded in my 2012 Clubman S with 35,000 miles.
I had some fluke problem with a loose lower engine mount during the first 10,000 miles that was covered under warranty. I also experienced some sort of thermostat failure at around 30,000, followed by a failed VANOS woo-hah just before I traded it.
Fortunately the last two issues were covered under warranty as well.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable vehicle, and I would highly recommend one to anyone who was looking for a more versatile MINI than the regular hatch.
