Surprise in a used oil housing R53

Bought a used Oil filter housing unit from someone which I assumed was inspected but once I received the part and cracked open the crap the oil filter had a considerable amount of shredded metal from internals I'm guessing. Engine had fail cylinder 1. I've gotten mixed feedback whether I have a chance at cleaning it up and hosing out it out. Currently have it soaking in chemical parts cleaner and will be hosing and trying it off later. All the components and release valves look good but I'm worried about residual metal. Guess its not worth installing even if I don't see a spec of metal lying around after a thorough clean.... thoughts?

as long as theres no metal on the inside you would be ok, otherwise the filter would get it anyways
