Hey
Is it possible to replace a speedometer cable without removing the dadgum engine?
Thanks

yes but not easy

and the year don't matter

I know a guy who nearly put his eye out tryin'

the cable snapped/sprung/jumped and hit him smack in the eye

lesson learned ... wear eye protection even when you don't THINK you need it

If you have a 92 it probably has the Japanese instrument cluster (even if it isn't a Japanese model) to release the cable from the speedo there are two tabs on the plastic collar, one has a hole in it, the other is solid. One the one with the hole, slip a small screwdriver under the tab and lift slightly, then slide the cable off the speedo. On the other end, it merely unscrews from the transmission. I've had the most luck reaching down from above but if it's on tight it can be a bugger to get loose.

some people have successfully modified the jaws of a basin wrench to get it loose, I made a tool out of a piece of scrap metal.....

Has it snapped or has the end at dash not connected properly....if snapped you could just release the cable end at the back of the clock cluster from memory you can pull the inner cable out and then insert new inner cable without removing outer cable.....
