Cylinder 1 Misfire (?) - No code

2008 MC AutoTrans N12 with 69700 miles.

Back story: Around July 2015, I replaced my thermostat housing due to the plastic cracking. Than in September changed out my spark plugs it was stuttering/stumble on accelerating and at stops. The stumbling problem stop and my mini was driving smoothly until the past month.

Now my mini after the engine warms up and at stop lights it slightly jolts (only on occasion). Only once or twice when accelerating on freeway I feel a slight hesitation.

Took the car to a auto shop whom specialized in Mini. The car wasn't throwing any codes but showing cylinder 1 numbers jumping randomly. I assume it's the misfiring. He says I need to replace my cylinder head because it must of overheated and caused a crack. It will cost about 1600 - 1700 with one year warranty on the parts and service. The mechanic claims it's ok for me drive and nothing urgent for me to change right away.

My question is: Is his diagnosis right and is it ok for me drive? The price is withing reasonable range? I plan to change it early next year around January latest February which gives me some time to gather funds.

All your advice are greatly appreciated. I'm so sad my car is giving me so much problems I love this car to death.

Did he discuss the symptoms of a cracked cylinder head? You should do some Google work and read up. Not being important enough to take care of right away seems like a warning sign to me. I'd go for a second diagnosis elsewhere.

I agree Minnie something did seem off and my usual shop isn't set up for full diagnostic. I'm so reluctant to take to a another shop. I will research some more. sigh....

I would hope not and it doesn't seem to be a cylinder problem. Which was my initial thought. I knew it was a misfire but I think this can be a solution to my car.

I am going back to my usual shop and get their opinions.
