Name that Motor Mount!

So on my 02 R50 when I am switching gears and while in gear and going on and off the gas you can feel it slam. Idling with the AC is rough as well.. I know its a mount but I am trying to figure out if it is the lower mount in the rear or the Transmission mount or both. I want to eventually change all of them but for now I want to fix this small problem.. These cars have 4 mounts correct?

- 2 on the Passenger Side
- 1 Transmission mount
- 1 Lower in the rear?

Here's all four....I suspect lower or trans...but you'll need to check all of them to be sure

Your car has those four mounts Spencer has pictured but I'd suspect the top left photo and a weaken bottom left photo. They are the engine upper and lower mounts. They are the easiest to change.

You'll need a special external torx socket (#10 or #12) for the upper mount. I got mine at NAPA. I highly recommend getting a new bolt as well. You'll either strip the head or break the bolt/mount removing it. I have changed the upper mount on an '04 and '06 R53 so far and neither bolt survived.

You need to check them all. Normally the rubber will crack, or on the passenger one if it's still the original it is most likely worn out as they get shorter over time and cause the other mounts to break.
We offer the TSW one as a replacement to keep it from wearing out again.

One of the most common parts to deteriorate on the MINI are the engine mounts. The rubber that is contained within the mounts becomes old and brittle, and doesn't perform a good job of isolating the drivetrain from the rest of the chassis. This eventually can cause a whole host of problems and cause wear to other critical components. We have a great Engine And Transmission Mount Replacement HERE that goes over common failures and a step by step process to replace the mounts yourself to help save some money. And of course, mounts here if needed.
