Brake Rotor Temps after downhill cyn run...

Interesting bit of info..

I have recently installed a Stoptech front brake kit along with the Stoptech rear slotted rotors. On Sundays a group of us MINI owners meets for coffee here in the L.A. area and then we do a canyon run.

Yesterday we ran Yerba Buena and when we stopped at the bottom we used one of the guys digital pyrometer and measured rotor temps...

Stock - Depending on the car ran anywhere from 575 to 600+ degrees

Stoptech - 315 degrees.

Now I know why I didnt get fade.

Good info. I've only been able to induce fade after about 20 minutes of track time, on a track that is notoriously hard on brakes.
I just had to order another set of rotors for my ST's - the result of running Hawk Blue pad compound on them 24/7 for the last three months.

Stoptech brakes have a great rep. One thing is that the calipers are not billet. This means that very few 17" wheels will fit without spacers and not all that many 18" ones.

I am not sure on Brembo's calipers because I feel Brembo's are overpriced in general.

I know a guy here in L.A. that sells a killer set up that uses Wilwood (billet) calipers and I am not sure whose rotors. One thing I have learned is stick with slotted rotors..not both slotted and drilled or just drilled. There are cracking issues. Slotted rotors dont have that inherent problem.

Give Steve a call at Steve's Auto Clinic (818) 891 6109 and talk to him about those brakes. They are a fair deal and I know they work.
