sales of all BMWs up 6.5%. Looks like they better get those convertibles rolling.

Can dealer discounts be right around the corner?

Read Gabe Bridger's site (Motoringfile.com). Low sales in July where due to very low or depleted inventory at MINI dealers.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I don't see any discounting coming anytime soon.

OK, the source I got the info from, (CNN), didn't say why sales where down, just that they were.

The drop in Mini sales is not surprising. This is the fate of any fad.

What is surprising is the 6.5% increase in BMW sales. Bangle must be feeling a bit more smug these days...

Doubt it...his great E60 experiment is down from the previous month and from the previous year, 49% and and 9.7% respectively.

Besides, in the U.S., BMW sales are down 4.4%, not up. And the only reason BMW is up ytd in the U.S. is due to the 17k sales of X3. Otherwise, ytd sales would be down 8.3%.

So is owning a BMW the fad now?

That's better! I was hoping that the public would vote with their pocketbook on Bangle's Crimes Against Humanity. Maybe they're starting to. I really miss the classic Teutonic designs of BMWs of yesteryear.

I agree! Now, the cars are kinda a cross between the classic bmw style and robocop. I can't explain I came up with that.

I really enjoy Bangle's design, as much as it is hip to attack it. You cannot rest on the same designs for 20 years, it just doesnt work, other than classic Minis

AHEM...tell that to Porsche.

People attack the design not because it's the in thing to do but rather because it's very unattractive design to many people. Sales numbers are starting to reflect that.

I have found the Porsche design to be unattractive for many years, however they are finally coming around.

Sounds like you are in the minority in both of your opinions. And Porsche is still using the same basic design...unlike BMW.

It's no surprise...

Saw this post earlier in the week on Gabe's site http://www.motoringfile.com
The forums on NAM are great but anyone who doesn't regularly check the homepage on Gabe's site is missing quite a bit...

Gasp! Is the bottom falling out? Is the MINI success over? Oh wait... dealers didn't have any cars to sell due to the early 2005 model year change over. So chalk up the decline (and subsequent lost sales) to unfortunate timing and less than stellar US production planning. Here's are the details from MINIUSA Press:
MINI USA reported continued demand for MINI automobiles, resulting in extremely low inventories. Sales of MINI automobiles in July were 2,607, down 15.5 percent from the 3,084 sold in July of 2003. Year-to-date, sales of MINI automobiles were down slightly, with 20,419 cars compared to 20,614 sold a year ago, a dip of 1 percent.
