Anyone else "trading up"?

I'm seriously considering trading my 03 Cooper S for a Cooper S Cabrio once the LSD becomes available. Who else has upgraded their cars to a newer model. I remember at first people were buying coopers and then trading for the S because the resale was so good. Is the resale still that good? I was looking on ebay and was surprised at how much they were going for. I have an 03 S with all packages plus leather with 30k miles. It also has a 17% pulley, custom installed K40 radar detector, upgraded speakers, and Piaa driving lights. I need to get close to $23k for it to make this happen. Is this reasonable? Or do you guys think I'm expecting too much for my car? Thanks for the opinions!

Don't expect to get anything for your add-ons. In fact, they might actually make it harder to sell.

Yes, I'm thinking of selling my MCS too in order to take advantage of the high resale values, especially in CA. What I'll replace it with is still TBD...

You could say we're trading up. I totalled the other one so we went for the S. I wanted LSD, but with it not being available til January was too late for me. I live in the Chicagoland area and was told they are gonna write a check for about $375 below sticker. It is an 03 cooper with about 12,000 miles. I was shocked to get that much. But, They gave me retail for it also. 911 fan is right in saying that you won't get anything for the add ons. Many people take off all the aftermarket parts and selling it that way. It's much easier to sell that way. Plus, you could put those parts on the new one.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on getting anything for the aftermarket stuff. That's just the stuff i'm too lazy to take off. It seems, though, that other cars are going for low 20k's without as much factory equipment. I guess only the market will tell for sure.

I am trading up as well... I have my 2005 MCS on it's way and am in the process of selling my 2003 Mini Cooper..... I ordered from Classic Mini in Ohio so it'll still be a while before I get my new toy but I'd rather do that than get raped by So. Cal. dealers..... I mean even if you pre order it, they still tack on $3k about MSRP.... anyway, sorry for the rant.... just getting excited about my new arrival......

Very tempting guys, but I love my '04 MCS with 11K troublefree miles. While some of the '05 enhancements are nice, looking at the big picture there is little to justify trading up a perfectly reliable and solid 10 month old car for a new '05.

Given the fact that the all new R56 MINI is only 2 years way, I will then revisit the possibility of trading up for one of the new ones with the 1.8L Turbocharged engine instead.

I am considering trading up when the 2007 turbocharged model comes out. By then my 2004 will be about (or close to) paid off. So I can start on car-payments again

I'd probably spec my next Mini as follows:
Cold weather package
Dimming mirror/homelink/rain-sensing wipers
Sunroof
LSD
MFSW
Xenons
DSC
Front/Rear Fogs
HK Stereo
Aux in
Xfer the Mini-Fini armrest...
Xfer my XM direct kit
1/2 cloth/1/2 leather
anthracite headliner (???)

I keep my cars for a long time, so I'll be tading in my 05 MC/S on a 2020 MC/S specced as follows:

350 HP John Cooper IV package (Hybrid electric)
Nuclear Magnetic brakes
Infrared seats
Antigravity cup holder
LCD paint with visual projection of color or video
Removeable roof panel
Direct satellite radio on demand music
Autodrive navigation system
Red octogan cloth/black leather seats
anthracite headliner IV with real coal particles
self-inflating run-flats with crystalized methane wheels

Hey Joe, don't forget the "Mr. Fusion" nuclear reactor performance package for extra power (It runs on garbage and beer cans), the Hovercraft conversion for those times when you feel the need to be above the earth bound traffic and the "Flux Capacitor" for those occassional time travel jaunts to the middle ages....

If I'm not mistaken, and I rarely am, the Flux Capacitor is a mid-year 2021 addition. Along with the limited time slip transmission.

Hey Joe,don't forget to get an extra set of dylithium crystals, and the food and beverage replicator. But don't bother with the teleporter,as that would take all the fun out of motoring around
