BFG Rival 215/45 R17 discontinued?

Just checked tirerack. Nice new website design, but they no longer list this size... is it discontinued? It's still listed on the BFG website.

I realize they're working on the Rival S (newer/better tread compound), but I really hope they keep this size. I'm nearing the end on my second set, and I've really enjoyed this tire. (I realize there are other good options, but the BFGs fit my setup perfect.)

I don't see them, may be discontinued or unavailable indefinitely.

Contact Alex@tirerack.com for a definitive answer.

BF Goodrich has decided not to produce the original Rival this season. They have not indicated that it's been discontinued. They have not released a Rival S in 215/45R17. My guess is that the Traditional Rival will not be replaced by Rival S, as the traditional version is designed to last longer. Each version fits a niche.

Looks like the Rival S is just like the Rival but with an updated tread compound to offer maximum dry grip and improved wet grip with quicker warm up during competition.

So maybe more grip = quicker wear and = faster rising tire temps to operating range.

Looking forward to the tirerack test results for the newest Extreme Summer tires.

Me too.

Too bad the Rival is not being offered in 215/45 R17 size this year... the closest (225/45 R17) is just too big to fit in my current set up. While I really liked the BFGs, it looks like I will need to consider some Hankook RS-3's or Dunlop Star Spec II's or other option this year...

crazy how these are all arbitrarily considered "200tw" when the S is supposed to last shorter than the original, yet same tw rating for both
