Best way or place to value my R56S trade in?

I'm about a week away from picking up my new F56 S. I currently drive an '11 R56S. The dealership is brand new and the sales manager told me to bring my current car in (is has low miles for the year) as he'd love to give me a quote on it.
I'm not in a hurry to sell or trade it so can take some time to figure this out.
Should I take it to a CarMax first so I will have an idea? Are they a rip off?
I have done a basic blue book value so have a ball park.

Dealerships will definitely always aim lower on a vehicle for trade in value as they have to make sure it's going to be worth it to them to make more money off the car when they re-sell it.

Kelly Blue Book and TrueCar(more of a buying guide, but can see what pricing should be at if someone bought it) are good resources to use. Also, cruise around cars.com, auto trader, or craigs list and see what cars are selling for. I know my car blue books at 9-10k (non MINI car), but I could easily sell it for 18-20k. It all depends on the market and what people are buying them for.

Carmax will give you a price. No hassle. But it won't be near retail. They heavily discount the price especially for older or lower value cars that they don't want for their inventory.

But its a price. Then you can go from there.

Also search cars.com for a similar mini. That will give you a rough estimate. Depending on the year and model, you can expect to save $1,000-$2,000 by selling it yourself.

If you trade it on your new car will get the 7% sales tax credit in the state of GA. Sometimes that can be more than the extra you may get from Carmax or another dealer.

Thanks, Way! I had no idea. Mike is not thrilled about me putting the car in Auto Trader because then he will have to do test drives with people because he thinks it's unsafe for me to ride off with a strange guy :D. Guess he forgets how scrappy his wife can be!
In the last car I sold I would take a test drive but only if I could bring my dog with me, I could do the same with this but this car hasn't really had dogs in it so hate to get dog hair in it!
