Water Pump Failure/shop says...

My Graf water pump failed on me in seven months, it's squirting coolant out between the two mating surfaces where there seems to be a small tab orange piece of rubber poking out the top. Anyway the reason for this thread is I told by the indy shop that I wanted to have the center coolant pipe that's between the pump and the thermostat housing replaced along with a dealer brand pump. He told me that while removing to center coolant pipe that it might stick to the thermostat housing damaging it.I just replaced the thermostat housing 7 months ago, god not again! I have been on the forums for over 2 years and have never heard of such an event here on NAM.

Am I mistaken? I'm far from perfect and my memory isn't what it used to be.

The water pipe is "clipped" to the thermostat housing. They'll have to remove some intake piping to get to it but it's not hard to unclip the pipe from the thermostat housing. Once it's unclipped there is nothing holding it into the thermostat housing and it will pull right out.
