Started car (2011 R56s) today and got a TPMS alert showing low pressure on all four corners. Exited car in pouring rain to check them all, no visual issue and all checked out with 33psi on my tire guage. I turned off the car, restarted, and still had low pressure indicators on.

Drove the 28 miles home without issue. Rechecked pressures and all were at 33.5 after the highway drive.

I used the turn signal stalk to reset and drove the neighborhood without getting an alert.

Any ideas what would cause the false reading? Car had been parked for nine hours, and it had been raining most of the day.

 

When you reset the TPMS system, you set new values for the system at 33psi so that is why it no longer prompted you to fill up your tires.

Your vehicle requires 33psi for under 100mph, and 38psi for over 100mph and/or driving at maximum load.

It is not uncommon for the dealership to inflat your tires to the max load/100+ mph rated tire load of 38psi and reset the TPMS at your last service visit.

 

How did you determine it was all four tires reading low? My 2011 R57 just lets me know I have a low tire. I've been driving with that yellow tire waring for a few months due to a faulty TPMS

 

MrElusive- At startup, when I got the TPMS light, before even moving, I checked the pressure on all four tires. It was at recommended spec of 33psi. I carry a guage as I'm a bit ****, and my last car, a Mazda MX5, had no TPMS and no runflats, and no spare. After the drive home it was 33.5 psi. I then reset the system as there was no reason for it to be reading low. I checked the tires when I bought the car a few months ago, and put on caps because there were none. They were at spec. Temperature has only gotten warmer, so pressure should not have gone down.

Texaswadefish- I got the yellow "tire" light on the center speedo, and the display in the tach showed an overhead view of the car, in red, with an arrow pointing to each wheel. I thought it might be a bad sensor but not all four at once...

When the alert popped up, I originally thought someone had messed with the car and let air out of one tire but none of them were low. .

 

Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I would suggest to check your tires with a different gauge to verify the pressures whenever you get a chance. If you are using an analog gauge, it may be time to purchase a new one. I have been told that they lose their accuracy after a couple of years.

 

Yea, check with a digital gauge. The tube slider gauges sometimes are not correct if they are old.

Thanks. I do use a digital gauge... although not quite as fancy as those above. Got a steady 33.5 on all four corners again yesterday. I'm thinking something got wet in the monsoon type rain we had... although I didn't notice anything else unusual. I've had no problems since I reset the TPMS. We'll see what happens.
