Driver's Airbag Issue

Airbag light has been on for a while, had it reset twice, keeps coming back. Dealership scanned the computer and this is what the printout says:

"The cause of fault (line break, driver's air bag, stage 1, and driver's air bag, stage 2) indicates a faulty plug connection in the electrical circuits of the driver's airbag.
The fault has occurred frequently since SOP 9/06 until end of June 2007. The air bag module adapter lead is therefore in all probability faulty (95% probability). Replace air bag module with adapter lead as per EPC as the cable connection from the air bag is connected to the coil spring assy."

also says:
"A major cause of faults in the driver's airbag is the coil spring and poor contact at the component. The following test must therefore be conducted while turning the steering wheel."

The dealer said the airbag is bad, and the lead needs to be replaced too.
Anyone else had a similar issue? I've never heard of an airbag just "going bad"...

You mentioned "dealership". Was this a Mini dealership? There is an airbag recall for some Mini's. If you are at a Mini dealership, they should be aware of the recall. A non-Mini dealership probably not.
