Recall only for the N14 Cooper S? Why?
So I spoke to my dealer today regarding the campaign on the timing chain tensioners and they informed me that the N12 powered coopers aren't included even though it is apparent that the issue exists in all of the N series engines.
I expressed my frustration in a politically correct manner and he sympathized but that was the extent of it except to say that they could measure my chain deflection and determine if I need a tensioner or a full timing chain job for $1500. I replied by suggesting that it would be more cost effective for me to simply put a new tensioner in and if the rattle went away I would know that I'm ok for a while. Even if I needed the full monty the new tensioner wouldn't go to waste.
He agreed with my logic and confirmed that they keep tensioners in stock at about $100 per.
Does this all seem a bit odd to anyone?
