Hello,

I picked up a clean 07 CS R52 with low miles recently. After dealing with the airbag sensor mat, a leaky water pump and replacing a few pieces of trim the car now looks and drives brand new. My kids use the back seat but are too small to get any benefits from the headrest - *I* on the other hand could use less obstructed rear view with the top up (early AM drives in 40F, don't ask me to put it down).

I looked at it yesterday (after replacing the passenger downtube) and it looks like the pillow is embedded into the rollbar, which is in turn covered in plastic trim all the way to the rear seat belts. It's not looking promising... Can anything be done with replacement trim or something ? I don;t want to gut it to the point it's ugly... (I'd keep the current parts for when they grow up) thx !

Greg! Yea... this is a big point many of us have addressed ... to give you an idea of the plastic covering of the roll bar I included an image.

I have been thinking of getting a second roll bar and cover and doing a bare metal finish with heavily modified plastic cover. But ... I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Take a look at the image, it is faster than pulling the car apart before you make any decisions.

+1 thats it The little plugs on the roll over bars main cover, not the chrome cover or black. its #4 for the plug and the rear headrest has a screw.

 

Thanks ! I found that picture eventually but I still wasn't sure some enterprising soul had not captured a "naked" roll bar picture or designed a clever hack / replacement trim... I wanted an idea of how ugly that all might be without any trim ;-) Oh well, it's not the end of the world, I've got my mirrors setup to cover the gap.

I think your plan to just get used to using your mirrors more is the way to go. The rear window is so small that it wouldn't help much to ditch the headrests. Besides, I find that the back quarter blind spots are the real issue for me...not directly behind.

Thanks ! Perfect illustration of what I was looking for. It won't work easily, and if it's made to work it will look like crap because the trim is not designed to accommodate the empty bar. No big deal, summer is coming !
