Sent an e-mail to Mobil 1 about their product and Walmart.......

Got a one sentence reply from www.mobil1.com

It was "Mobil 1 sold anywhere is the same". For some reason a few people have the idea that the oil sold at Walmart is "different" that that sold at, say, an auto parts store or a car dealership. I guess it's because it's cheaper at Walmart.

Maybe they never heard ot "the economy of scale" or "I'm a dealer so I can charge a big markup".

Rest assured, whether you love or hate Walmart, your MINI won't know where you bought your Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec, etc., because it's the same suff.

As a former supplier to Walmart I assure you that while some products may be specially designed for Walmart distribution those with identical packaging as products that appear in other stores are probably pretty close. They watch the sell through and return of their products closer that anyone else and if there is a problem you risk losing what is always your biggest customer.

"PRETTY CLOSE" Thats not what I want to hear. If something has identical packaging, it MUST be the same product inside the package. If it is not, the company as well as the store selling can and should be sued. The product should be the exact same product unless it is specified on the packaging or in some other away to inform the consumer.

Yes, by pretty close I meant that sometimes you can adopt different QC requirements for a particular large vendor. Also, sometimes thay require slightly different labeling or case packaging. Anything significant would be misrepresentation.
