Best way to wash/protect matte painted wheels?
Best way to wash/protect matte painted wheels?
I'll be swapping out my current bright silver OZ wheels to matte grey OZ wheels, and it just came to me that matte paint requires special attention.
Most of my searches have been inconclusive, "product X seams to work for me so far." I'm ok with putting in some elbow grease to keep them looking good, but I'm not trying to be OCD or break the bank on incredibly specialized products/brands.
So my questions regarding washing and protecting...
With regards to washing brake dust and dirt, is there a special wheel cleaner product I should be using? I've used an "all-wheel" cleaner for my old wheels. Maybe an "aluminum" wheel cleaner would be better since it's less aggressive. The last option would just be to gently wash by hand with a soft wash mitt and wheel brush. Will any old car soap be ok? Some soaps contain wax additives, and I'm worried that it could leave some shine when wiped dry.
Lastly, with regard to protecting matte wheels in between washes, what types of products should I be using? Obviously wheel wax made sense on my old wheels, but here I'm guessing sealant specific to wheel paint is as far as I can go in terms of protection. I don't mind doing a deep clean and reapply sealant every 6 months or so. Any wheel sealant products or specific additives I should make sure to avoid?
Again, when it comes to buying matte wheel cleaning/protecting products, I'm not trying to break the bank. Any off-the-shelf stuff is fine, I just want to get the right kind of stuff.
