Software Update to Fix Breaks?

I took my Mini in for service today, it was due for some regular service. The dealership called me a few hours later to tell me they would need to keep the car overnight. According to them, the car is telling them it needs new rear breaks when it really doesn't. So they have to run a software update to fix the issue.

Is that a thing? It sounds a bit off to me.

Sometimes I miss the days of "if they make a funny noise, do your brakes"

Yup, welcome to over complicated BMW world where a car has be reformatted and re-loaded over a 4 hour span to update a brake alert setting.

I got a loaner when I did mine.
