Why only manual MCS got an engine oil heat exchanger

Manual MCS's got an oil heat exchanger, but auto's didn't. I got my hands on a manual oil filter housing, and want to set up an oil cooler (with a derale thermostat and 7 row heat exchanger, AN fittings in the works) but before I tear into, I want to know if there was fitment issues, or just why it was never put in.

The engineers probably assumed that if you have an auto then you're not tracking the car and beating the **** out of it. Therefore you can get away with not having an oil cooler.

My guess is ^This^. One thing that an engineer who's way smarter than me commented when he saw the heat exchanger was that it's primary function was actually to bring the oil to temperature quicker.

I know that's hard to believe (the part about somebody being smarter than me, not the heat exchange bit)

Would it surprise you if I said I'm an engineer?

Warming the oil is the usual answer I'm getting, But as long as there is no real fitment issues, and I use a proper thermostat, I seen no real problems then, plus allowing an additional 1/2 - 1 q.t more of oil is just an added bonus. I'll do a write up on this in case other fellow Auto owners have thought about performing this mod. Down the line I am installing a power steering cooler. My pump is making it's death noise, so I have to set up an appointment to finally have the "warranty" pump and fan installed.
