Mini Saved My Life (or helped avoid a big wreck!)

Saturday morning I was on my way to work around 6 AM, heading north on the interstate. Rolling around 75 mph or so, no traffic at all. Noticed taillights on the onramp up ahead, didn't think much about it. Then, an older minivan turned straight left from the onramp, blocking both lanes of the I-5!!! All I saw was this damn van parked sideways in front of me with no time to brake. I did a quick flick of the wheel and went halfway off the road onto the divider grass, around the now-stationary van and back into my lane. Couldn't have missed the van by more than 6 inches. Hope I scared the living crap out of the van driver because they sure got my heart racing!

My 2004 Cooper S handled the quick maneuver with no drama at all. I'm sure if I had been in my Ford Explorer it would have rolled into the dividing ditch or understeered into the driver's side of the van killing us all.

I have no idea what the van driver was thinking or planning, drunk or sober or whatnot. Dangerous roads out there folks, be ready for anything, anytime.

Eric

Sounds like I-5 to me.. Saw a guy pull a 360 on 167 the other day. Stay safe.
