Extending warranty years vs miles
Extending warranty years vs miles
Our 2013 Mini Cooper coupe is about to turn two years old with only 7K miles on it. We have CPO coverage which extends the warranty to six years/100K miles.
So we have four years left under warranty.
If Mini Cooper drops the coupe/roadsters next year, we may want to hang on to our current coupe but are concerned that we would be out of warranty after four years. With only about 50K miles on our Coupe when this warranty coverage were to run out, mileage is not needed so much as additional years of coverage.
Is it possible to increase our warranty coverage years leaving the current 100K mile coverage in place.
That is could we get a four year extension on our current six year/100K mile CPO coverage?
We really do like the Coupe/Roadster model and would want to keep ours if we could somehow have it covered under a warranty.

You ought to drive it more. Most parts wear out with mileage not time.
And, you are probably much better off saving the money you would spend on extending the warranty, and just pay for any repairs as they happen.

We probably will drive it a little more than we have but not much.
Whether an extension to the years of warranty coverage would be worth the cost would depend on how much that extension in years would cost.
Since repairs on a Mini can be quite expensive, I think this option (if available) would be one to explore.
The question of extended warranties or not has been debated on this site ad nauseam and that was not the intent of my question.
We currently have a six year/100K mile warranty and my question was whether anyone out there knew of warranty coverage that would cover extended years beyond the six years we currently have.
Mileage is not an issue as we (obviously) do not put that many miles on our Mini.
As I've already said, we love the Coupe/Roadster model Mini and since they are being discontinued, purchasing a new one will not be an option.
So our choice's will be;
Keep our Coupe when the six years warranty runs out and take our chances.
Sell our Coupe when the warranty expires.
Find a warranty that will start providing coverage when our current six years runs out with the same 100K mileage coverage we currently have.
Does anyone know of a creditable source for such a warranty extension?
I know nothing about it, but I would think a call to the dealership would answer the question for you. And if they can't offer extended coverage, then could you use one of those third party companies that offer extended warranties?
Please post what you find out, as it's a great question you've posed. My car is 15 months old with 3000 miles on it, and this warranty you speak of would be of much interest to me.
Thanks.
Mike
