R52 Valve Cover Gasket replacement?
Valve Cover Gasket replacement?
So I've got a leaking valve cover gasket and need to replace it.
Somehow my Mini dealer only wants to charge me $245 for the part/service, which seems unusually low. I'm still tempted to just do it myself but it actually seems like a pretty big job on the R52 with the supercharger/intercooler.
Has anyone done this before?
Here are the steps for doing one without an intercooler: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...eplacement.htm
However, they indicate that "Keep in mind that this article is written using a non-supercharged Cooper. For those of you with a MINI Cooper S, you will first need to remove the intercooler and also the fuel rail. Please refer to our articles on water pump replacement for the Cooper S for more information. "
Ok, so that is here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...eplacement.htm
And one of the first things they indicate here is "Begin the process by gaining access to your water pump. This requires the removal of the front bumper cover and carrier, as well as the removal of all coolant from the system"
Anyway, this all seems a bit screwy -- how is Mini charging me so little for a job that looks like it is going to take so much work?
Am I missing something here?
Thanks,
Tom
