R56 hatch keeps popping open

My 2008 MCS hatch keeps popping open on it's own. I have been searching the forum trying to find info on this. If I missed anything please point me in the right direction. I have read that it's corrosion from water getting in there. Has anyone fixed it themselves and what did you do?

Water and corrosion get past the lenses of the seals. Then shorts and triggers the lock.

Check the hatch handle grip and replace if necessarily, linked in the link.

Thanks

I'll guess that the 2 latch pieces are wearing out. Mine is rattling and my tech guy said it's common for them to wear out. You may be able to adjust them in the short term.

Let your mother-in-law out of the trunk, or at least let her exit through the doors ?

Only way to fix it is buy the whole new piece. That's Mini engineers for you. One little switch and you have to buy a $150 part.
