Brake Light Mod & Rear Fog Lights

I just got a wild hair so I decided to go out and give it a shot. I did the rear brake light mod so that the rear fogs come on when the brakes are on the day I got my Mini. I've been noticing a bunch of euro-cars with the rear fogs on one side that are always on recently and I like how they are visible from quite a distance and when you are approaching them that funky fog light really stands out and makes the car much more visible. I persistantly went through the combinations until one of the rear fog lights came on with the parking lights as opposed to the brake lights. I'll have to see how it looks tonight but in my minds-eye it is perfect.

My question is are there any possible electrical problems that could arrise out of this? I know that the common train of thought is to have the dealer do the rear fog light instal. Why is this? So that the switch will work? It seems to work fine with no adverse problems... I guess I'll find out...

The dealer needs to reprogram the computer in the car to recognize the rear fog light. The switch can be done yourself, and the lighting hardware and wiring are already in place. However the option needs to be activated by the computer.

The thing about fog lights, you only need them during poor visibility. You should not, and do not need them under normal driving conditions.

It's one thing to wire them to the brake lights so they only turn on with the brake lights, it's completely another thing to have them on whenever your parking lights or headlights are on... Even if it's only 1 fog light like the Europeans....
