MC RSpeed exhaust

The word on the street is true. RSpeeds MC exhaust is truly a work of art. There's something about looking at a handmade German exhaust. The welds are gorgeous. As far as performance goes the exhaust does an impeccable job. The engine revs much freer making blipping easier than ever. Acceleration is much smoother. Torque and horsepower are both boosted. Check out the dyno on RSpeeds website. The car feels more confident. Even when just idling the car sounds powerful. Pedestrians walking behind your car will notice the low yet unobtrusive powerful tone. True, there are many MC exhaust the boast the above qualities. What sets RSpeeds aside is its refined European tone. True story- literally two nights ago my girlfriend proceeded to tell me, as we were driving, how great my car sounded. I would expect such a response from a fellow enthusiast, but a girl? The buddy of mine who helped me with installation was speechless when he saw the exhaust. Anyone in the Atlanta area or who is passing through who would like to hear before they buy is welcome to contact me.

Nice review.

I've been holding off getting an exhaust for my Cooper for a while now. The RSpeed is probably my top choice at the moment. By the end of the year they might introduce a new slash-cut tip. So I'm kinda waiting for that, plus saving up and still gathering info. I also like the sound of the Remus (2nd choice) and Borla (3rd because of large tip and possible tendency to drone).
I only heard the RSpeed on a sound/video clip, so I'd like to hear it in person. I'm actually going to Atlanta later this month, but don't know if it'll work out to listen to your car.

Do it! I've had mine on for something like a year and a half and maybe 20-25K miles now and I still love it. It's a simple install and well worth the time.

greg67,

If you are still looking, the rspeed for the MC is very good- reasonable price, good product, good sound. For slightly more power but louder and more expensive the Helix13 for the MC is worth a look and the Rogue is also good and has gotten positive user reviews (see gabe bridger's review).

The Borla has a huge 4" tip (not for the sqeamish) maybe not more power than Rspeed just a bit louder, hadn't heard about any droning.

I thought I saw Remus in closeout on Mossmini.com

Thanks minihune. I've actually heard the Helix and liked it fine. I realize it makes the most hp, but it seems that the RSpeed is best for more low end torque.

IIRC R-speed did indeed make the most mid-range, but not the most top-end. This was from a grassroots motorsports article from last year. Joe and the guys are great to deal with and took a *long* time to develop the exhaust.

I stopped by while they were developing their MCS exhaust and they were on something like the 8th prototype to get the characteristics that they wanted. Definitely not seat-of-the-pants development.

My 2 cents.

that was a joke, right?

even though I am a girl, I happen to love the way my RSpeed exhaust sounds, and have sold at least 3 people on it. I can feel a definite seat of the pants difference, and so can other MC owners.

The RSpeed is on the top of my list as far as exhausts go. I was lucky enough to get to drive Amanda's MC with it on there and there was a definate increase in power and the sound is very pleasant (thanks again Amanda ). I also really like stock looking tip on it.

BTW Amanda, its looking like coilovers and 15s will be on the car as soon as I get back from California.

Is the RSpeed tip the exact diameter of the stock tip? Or is it slightly larger?

Thanks for the kind words about the exhaust.

The German guys at BBK our Builder will be very proud

Hey Commetgirl, You think you can make cake that looks like a pulley?

It looks like Atalnta Minis and R Speed Will be hosting a Pulley Party with Randy Webb.

I am not sure of the date yet but I will let you know.

Hiya Joe!

If I can make a cake that looks like a MINI then a pulley should be easy! eh? the pulley itself would be easy- its round! but the belt and the rest of the supercharger would pose some difficulty...

Greg,
FYI, the droning issues are primarily with the MCS Borla exhaust(s?). I've had the Borla on my Cooper for well over a year, and have had no such problems. Others apparently have. Seems like the install (i.e., where the exhaust tip ends up in relation to the rear valence) makes a difference.

As far as the Borla tip goes, it's large, but not so large that it looks silly like the MCS Magnaflow. The diameter is large, but the inside surface tapers in to give it a nice, solid look - not coffee can style.

The RSpeed was a very close second to the Borla when I finally made my decision. I think it's the only exhaust for the MC that I haven't heard a single significant complaint about. Thanks for the great review, royce!

It's good.....

Had mine for about a year now.........Occasionally it seems too loud but 80-90% of the time it is perfect. I wouldn't want it any louder at full throttle nor would I want it quieter. I painted the stainless muffler flat black because I didn't like the way the muffler stuck out below the car and I'm still on the fence about the tip. Other then that I cannot complain, workmanship is awesome and so it the price.

Thanks for your input Chris. I haven't ruled out the Borla. I really like how it sounds. I've heard about the install (tip/valence) causing possible sound differences. What's the surefire way to get it right? Should it be flush or stick out some?

To be honest, I can't remember. I know it's been discussed in past threads, so if you search for Borla and valence or something like that, it should show up.

Here's a photo of mine:

I am one of those 3 people and Amanda knows what she's talking about. I put my RSpeed exhaust on about 2 months ago and never looked back...it's a great combo of looks, sound, and (seemingly) power. I am a happy customer thanks to Amanda and the guys at RSpeed.

One of my first mods, nearly two years ago, was to paint the stock muffler black. I haven't seen any other Coopers around with theirs blacked out and can't understand why. I guess it doesn't bother anyone else.

The RSpeed tip isn't that bad, but I'm hoping they'll offer a slash-cut tip similar to their S exhaust.

Got any pics of the black painted muffler? Sounds like something I may want to do.

I've been thinking about doing that since I put mine on as well....still thinking about it. It's beautiful workmanship, but I don't like large chrome-like objects visible on my car....I'm a borderline chromaphobic. What sort of paint did you use and is there any chipping/flaking?

The paint is high temp, flat black. I think I got it at Target or K-Mart. It's super easy to do. I removed the tip, then masked the bumper. There has been no flaking or peeling so far and it's been almost two years.

Here's a pic.

I like it - that's what I want. That looks like a stock can - I figured you were talking about an RSpeed, but the effect is the same. thanks for the pic
