Slave cylinder and other woes
So I have a question My 06 S convertable died on the road last week. When I check the threads here the discription fit the Slave cylinder problem. The clutch pedal went to floor and would not come back I got it into first and limped it to a parking lot. Had it towed 2 mile only to an indy shop here in Hudson NH. They did the slave and said that it blew of during the test drive. So big surprise they told me I would need a clutch. ok I guess the clutch could be going and cause the slave to apear gone. Right?
So now they tell me that the Tranny housing has a hole and the tranny is dry. I know this fluid did not bleed out when I limped it to the curb. Is this somehting that could happen? Should I push them to fix the Gear box if that damage occured during their ride?
If you can prove it was not dry when you delivered it to them, yes raise hell.
BTW the clutch and brakes share fluid, the trans doesn't. But if it was dry you'd think you would have noticed.
I was going to suggest a Greeneperformance slave as a near permanent fix but it sounds like you already have a new slave.

This is the problem with mom n pop shops, they have no idea what they're working on when the car isn't a 1997 Chevy Cavalier.
The slave shouldn't have contaminated the clutch material with fluid, as it doesn't even enter the trans bell housing. Whether driving it that extra few feet with an inoperable slave hurt it, that is up in the air. If the slave "flew" off during the test drive they probably didn't reinstall the little spring clip that holds the fluid feed line to the slave.
As above stated you would know within minutes of driving the car if there wasn't fluid in the transmission, synchro's don't really like doing their job when there is no lubricity.. Not to mention the gear whine you would hear.
If the slave was "destroyed" again after replacing it with a quality part (OEM) I would lean towards a manufacture defect, or installer error. There is a special tool required to properly bleed the slave, if they didn't have the tool they bled it wrong.
Under proper install, a failure of the slave again would point to; manufacture defect, a problem with the master cylinder under the dash (extremely rare to see those fail), or a mechanical issue with the clutch fork/ throw out bearing (but you would have noticeable noise from the that area under clutch engagement.)
