2004 MCS R53 Lower Control Rm Bushings Replacement

Hi all, I noticed a clunk and rougher ride, so I traced it to the LCA bushings. How hard are they to replace and are any special tools needed? I notice you can order just the bushings or bushings already in brackets, which way would be the best option?

If anyone has instructions or tutorial, that would be great!

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Plenty of tutorials on YouTube, here and on Pelican Technical. Here's a good video on cutting then out rather than dropping the subframe:
. Getting the control arm out is more trouble than installing the bushings. Suggest you check your ball joints while doing the LCA bushings. Beats having to go in later.

They aren't bad to do, but hard to do on the floor in the garage. Either way the Powerflex bushings will be much easier to install and will also last forever. So don't bother going with the OEM rubber ones.
There are many different ways people do them, we still drop the subframe when we do them at the shop. Doesn't really matter how you do it, but I do NOT recommend using the torch way as the fuel lines are really close and that would be a disaster.

I did mine today on the floor of the garage without removing the subframe or breaking any of the ball joints. It is not too bad, the worst part is getting the old bushings off the arm. Go with the powerflex, you won't regret it.

Hey guys, I'm in the middle of doing mine and the sub frame is on the floor. The most difficult for me was getting the steering rack coupling off and I really fear putting it back on. Any suggestions?

Also, how is the best way to align the sub frame when you are raising it back up?

One more thins. I'm having a helluva time getting the old bushing off the control arm. I bought the whole assembly, so are there any tricks to getting the arm back in?

Thanks, as always,
JT

I put my control arms in a vice and carefully used a sawzall to cut the old bushings off. Worked like a charm.

Guess who doesn't have a sawzall? i guess a hand saw will work - in time.

Thanks,
