Help!! knocking noise and lots of oil or somethin

Help ....my '04 MC 135,000 mi runs fine but yesterday it began making just one knock noise, not loud, whenever I would tap on the gas ....sounds like from the front passenger side ...today I opened the bonnet ( NO it is a hood, dammit!) ...if you are standing at the front of the car, attached to the left of the engine there is an aluminum dome shaped component where oil or something is pooling at the base of this component which sits on red metal ( my car is chili red) This has a grounding wire leading from the top of this component to a bolt on the red metal where the component sits.

the noise sounds like when an engine mount went on one of my previous cars but what is this oily stuff and what is the component, so when I bring it in to my mechanic I don't sound totally clueless,,,,,,

thanks

is this what it looks like?
If thats it, its common for when this motor mount breaks it will leak oil from it. You just need to replace it.

Yup...so I was right, sort of...I was guessing engine mount but did not recognize what it would look like.... I was picturing it being lower down ..... Is this a type of repair my local mechanic who has worked on some minis can do, or would it be better to bring it to my inconveniently located one hour away place that specializes in minis?

heres a good how to do it, it takes no longer then one hour, honestly i would buy the part and do it myself but that depends on how you want to do it.

Never go back to OE. Replace w/ VibraTechnics instead.

Yeah just do it youself. It not hard to do, if you have some tools.
