taking care of an n18 JCW

I've been scouring searches here and mostly getting n14 info.

Are there any things to maintain on the n18 JCW other than 5k oil changes that would be considered preventative maintenance?

5k oil changes are totally the way to go. It's the cheapest, easiest, proactive maintenance you can do.

The oem oil interval seems absurd to me.

Run some BG 44K every few months, it will clean the combustion chambers of oil deposits. Have your valves walnut blasted every 40k-50k in conjunction with BG 44K, you won't find a better carbon remover! Monitor how much oil is being burned every 2 weeks.

5k oil changes? I hope you don't think that is actually preventing anything.

What makes you say that, do you have any information you would like to share with us?

Because I have not seen any evidence that shortening the interval to 5k miles prevents any failures of the engine. At this point, it seems to have pretty much become the equivalent of the quick lube industry's recommendation to change oil every 3k miles, a move that served no purpose other than to lighten the wallets of people buying excessive oil changes.

At 5k miles, it is probably on the borderline of introducing additional wear on the engine relative to following a longer interval. That said, I doubt whatever additional wear may be occurring is significant or enough to cause any problems or failures.

Would just hate to see the OP posting up about part x just failed even though he or she followed a short interval thinking it would somehow prevent any problems.
