Soundproofing, Moonroofs, and other mods... OH MY!
Hi all!
I'm pretty new but I've been working every weekend non stop on my 2008 R56 Mini Cooper (non S) and am looking for some advice/help on a few things.
The biggest thing I'm trying to figure out is what to do with my Moonroof vs Soundproofing the cab. So far I've got FatMat in the boot, most around the doors (Though not the mid section since that was a bit harder and perhaps a little scary trying to remove). I also did most of the front wheel wells and am going to do the rears.
I also removed the back seats and custom made a false flooring using red oak plywood and soundboard. That with the Fatmat throughout the boot made a huge difference. But I'm still getting a windtunnel effect and I've determined it's coming from the moonroof.
My first thought was to replace the class with a metal insert but then I would need to get an exact paint match which wouldn't be realistic. The thoughts I'm lingering on is maybe some type of sound dampening vinyl I could cut to fit the moonroof. I'd like to know if anyone has done this though and to what effect. If not I'm looking for other options. I don't mind that I wouldn't be able to see out the glass since the sun bothers me anyway but I would like to maintain the MoonRoof's functionality.
The next thing I'm curious about is what everyone else uses to lift their car to easily get at the wheels and remove them. I know there are Jacks and actual lifts. I'm looking for an option that isn't as expensive as an actual lift but easier and more sturdy than a handjack.
Finally, I'm looking at opens for my headlights. My car is pepper white, and I've been steadily changing all the trim to black. I HATE chrome. I've heard plenty of horror stories about the the Spec-D black headlight replacements so I'm thinking I'll stick with the OEM lights but I'd love to paint some portion of these black to match the contrast. (I do love the idea of the halo rings etc but not sure that's possible to add to the OEM light assembly or not) Does anyone have any suggestions???
Thanks all!!
and don't worry I'll be posting more pics to my gallery with all this work soon. I actually have a ton more I need to post, and eventually make a sig with my Mini. :-)
